A close-up photograph of a wall rarely tells a signage supplier everything needed for a quote. Good site photographs explain the location, scale and access conditions. They help the team identify questions early, although they do not replace a site survey where one is needed.
Begin with a wide view
Photograph the whole frontage or wall from a safe position. Show neighbouring features, entrances and the area around the intended sign. For a business inside a shared complex, include a view showing how a customer approaches the premises.
Make the intended sign position clear in a separate annotated copy. Keep an unmarked photograph too, because arrows and text can obscure useful detail.
Add a straight-on view and detail photographs
A straight-on photograph helps explain the available sign area. Then add closer images of the surface, existing fixing points and any visible damage. If an old sign must be removed, show it as it currently appears rather than sending only the new design concept.
Do not climb, lean over an edge or enter an unsafe area to obtain a photograph. Explain any section you cannot safely document.
Supply measurements as measurements
Write down the available width and height with units. A photograph alone is not a dependable dimension reference. State whether the measurements were taken directly or are estimates. Do not treat dimensions inferred from a nearby object as confirmed installation measurements.
If the sign must fit within a frame or opening, show that restriction clearly and ask whether a site check is needed before production.
Explain installation access
- Approximate height above ground.
- Whether access is from a pavement, yard or internal room.
- Opening hours and any access restrictions.
- Whether other tenants share the area.
- Who will approve placement and provide entry.
For illuminated signage, explain whether an appropriate power point is available, but leave electrical assessment and connection to qualified personnel.
Send one organised brief
Label photographs by location and group them with the business name, intended sign message, preferred size and deadline. Avoid sending many nearly identical images without identifying which surface matters.
